Tzeentch. Brother Jest and Brother Marc

A couple of small additions to my Tzeentchian Warband before the year is out, hopefully 2022 will be a better year for the Church of Transmogrification.

Brother Jest of the Outer Church

Brother Jast had always been a religious man, but never a humble one. Raised a devotee of Sigmar, he had been a thorn in the side of the priests with his wealthy family affording him generous donations that always came with price and a demand that his voice be heard.

Jest had always felt blessed and elevated in the eyes of the Gods but unappreciated of the earth and after arguing with the local priest for the last time he stepped into the Church of Transmogrification, maybe they would be grateful. Grateful they were for his patronage and flattered his ego until he had given all and took the Lilac Sacrament. The hand of Tzeentch reached out and blessed him with pale wings and his ego soared to new heights. He boasted of their beauty and revealed in flights between the colonnades of the church Halls, announcing to all that was amongst the favoured and would soon be blessed again, to join the Churches Cherubim and then on to daemon hood  and to stand by the side the Great Changer!

His words were heard and the next time he took Sacrament he was brought low and his wings were shrunk until he could do naught but hop, his bright mask burnt and twisted and became a comical grin. Jast became Jest and now serves as a bloody Fool for the Church and still dreams of flight as he perches and drops with his mace

Brother Marc of the Outer Church

Marc had ended his life before the Church found him as a thief of poor skill and little luck.

Born to a family with a little land, he was the third son and had inherited nothing on his father death. Unwanted at birth and unloved at home, he had been encouraged by uncaring brothers to seek his fortune away from them and in the town. They had given him a small sum of coin and their fathers sword to bribe him on his way.

But his older brothers had no desire to give anything to him and had plotted for their farmhands to set upon him like brigands when he reached the town and take back all that they had given. Beaten and robbed, the town only saw yet another filthy worthless dreg, his protestations and pleas for help as only begging lies. Desperation drove him to steal, but unskilled and unaccustomed to his new life he was caught by the town watch and punished. His ears were cut and he was pilloried for his theft. Further undone he was found by the Church who took him in and showed him his first kindness and he gladly took the path they offered. Healed of his wounds, he now bears the drums of service and beats out each step on the Changers Way.

Brother Jest is a C12 Citadel Goblin Splat with a set of wings I found in my Bits box. Brother Marc is another figure taken from the Red Redemption set

Tzeentch. The Church of Transmogrification renewed

I last aded to my Tzeentchian Warband in 2017 ( shameful face!) and is another project I hope to see progress in 2020 and to help remind me I have peppered my painting lists with a warband figure between other projects.
The first figure for 2020 is from Knightmare Miniatures Pantheon Of Chaos Range. Knightmare Miniature are creating amazing figures full of character and a classic Oldhammer vibe perfect for this project and I would recommend checking them out if you don't already know them.

'Phuu (klick) watches the waters and is mesmerised by the light and colours that dance with it, its movements stirring him to the core as they once stirred his body and gave him new form. The hands of Tzeentch upon him that he might better serves the Great Changer. Phuu (klick) stands at the heart of the Church of Transmogrification, the Sacred lake from which the Church draws its great Change.
Phuu (klick) does not remember his life before and the Cerulean ledger records only that he had been here before their arrival, for Abbey had once belonged to a Bretonnian Order dedicated to the Lady of the Lake. The Abbott had fallen to lust and greed, secrets he could not hold, and now its walls and the  waters beneath, this sacred Lake, were made anew and Phuu (Klick) would stand guard and see them bless all as he had been blessed.

Brother York of the Outer Church

Brother York had known a lifetime of secrets. As a child he had been one of twins but as they had grown differences had begun to emerge in his brother Lor. At first it was just in personality, he became more more morose and isolated, with random outbursts of violence and almost animal like rage. He would disappear for days as a teenager, despite the tears of their mother and the beating of their father on his return. Then the changes became physical as puberty brought not a move into manhood but something else. Hair sprouted from all of his body, muscles thickened along with his skin. Fearful of being reported and condemned, the family hid him and chained him to the wall as he descended further. When even this became too much the family took him to the woods and watched him flee into the darkness on hooves. Yorks mother died soon after of a broken heart and his father took to drink and beating York. When he could take no more York fled and was found by missionaries of the Church who were preaching in the town and taken in. The guilt and loss of his brother and mother, his rage towards his father and desperate desire for change a rich offering to Tzeentch.

Tzeentch. Bors of the Moon Helm

Bors was a killer.
Raised in the unloving backstreets of Barrow, he was a child in the gutter and was made a man in the arena.
Sentenced to the life of an indentured Gladiator for killing a man following tavern brawl, Bors found his calling and became a brutal master in the art of killing. His success in the arena gained him a wealthy patron, Lord Aris who elevated him to personal bodyguard, It was in this position that the hand of Tzeentch intervened.
Lord Aris was travelling between his country residence through the Wilds when his Caravan was set upon by brigands.
A wealth man, Lord Aris had paid for a large guard as well as the service of Bors and the the brigands were well met but by the days end only Bors remained alive and as he stumbled from the shattered carriage of his former patron he came across the corpse of the brigands leader.
Bors was drawn to the leaders helm, a grand helmet with a golden moon crest, and like a victorious crown he raised it up and placed it upon his own bloody brow.
The helm was no mere thing of iron but a tool of Tzeentch and a bound lesser demon within it began to speak and fill Bors with a vision of his glory and the bright path ahead.
His old life forgotten, Bors travelled to the Church of the Transmogrification and pledged his rage to its cause.

The figure is an old Citadel Chaos Thug from 1988 and is a fantastic figure, full of old hammer charm with his classic barbarian lower half and his contrasting knight top. The whole sculpt has loads of energy and character and so decided not to convert him and just add the hint of corruption, as if heh has just started on his path, his hands starting to discolour and his armour gaining the hint of blue like the cursed helm. The name is taken from one of the knights of the Round Table

Tzeentch. The Foundlings of Tzeentch

'Before the bright cacophonous advance came the strangest of tides, a host of twisted and malformed hounds that called out in bark and cry as they lopped on and stranger still was their riders that sat aside their hunched backs and shoulders. Tiny forms, like children coloured as to wine, as if they had been dipped into a vineyards press, and stranger still was their countenance For each wore not a face but a part, one an eye and another a nose. It was as if a great face had been raised up and shattered and its parts laid up on each child's sleeping that they might wake and carry it as their own.
Though they stood no higher than my waist i had no breath to laugh for their mad and murderous intent was clear and had emptied my lungs in fear. I know not what brought me lower, that they were apart or that might come together again in some greater madness.

Pikeman Cartin, 1st Standing Stone Border Milita.
Survivor of the Candle Tower Massacre.

The public face of the Church of Transmogrification is a merciful and beneficent one. All are welcomed and none are turned away, no matter their crime or deformity, no matter how unloved and unwanted.
The mutant and criminal have found their way through the church doors but young and abandoned are also taken in and found a place under the Lord of Changes gaze. The smallest are given over to the hungers of sharper mouths with the congregation while the more able are taken into service.
Life expectancy is short for many, exposure to the high levels of magic and the warp poison some while others dissolve into multicoloured hue or cloud, collapsing into a scented incense drift or bright smudge against the wall. Some mutate into bright insects or small twisted gargoyle like shapes that swarm and inhabit the small spaces of the church. Some endure and joined the ranks of the Foundlings, their bodies given over to a single sense and their minds joined, sustained by magic and used by the church masters to extend their visions. The founding act as spies for the Church in times of peace and as scouts and saboteurs when battle is joined, ranging ahead of the main lines or skulking round the edges to see what might be missed.

In constructing the Foundlings I used Chaos war hounds and a selection of Halfings and Marauder Miniature Goblins. Saddle cloths, saddles and their altered faces were then built up with Green Stuff.
Prior to this project i have only really worked with GS as a filler but my first attempt at sculpting (very crudely!) with the Slann War Tortoise encouraged me to keep trying and forming the shields and these features are the most complex I have done so far.

The Warband so far, taller figures to come as well!

Tzeentch. Brother Saul of the Outer Church

Saul was the second son of a Stone Mason who had always struggled to control his temper. Rejected in love, Saul killed the man whom she had chosen instead. Fleeing the town, Saul stumbled across the Church and sought sanctuary. The dead mans parents were paid off and the Town Wardens pacified, Saul would be spared if he took Orders and remained in the Church.
indebted, Saul has embraced his new life, and the Church has found a better channel for his rage

Building the backstory for my Tzeentch war band I wanted too a add subversive cult element. The Church of Transmogrification is the public face of the group, operating an Abbey at the edge of town and taking in the unwanted and lost. for the figures of the Outer church, those who have yet to receive the full blessings of Tzeentch I am using the figures from the Regiments of Renown, Disciples of the Red Redemption.

I have restyled the shields to fit in with a wider theme

Tzeentch. Thosim Farsight

Cast out because of his visions of battle and blood, the Dwarf Thosim was lost unto the wilderness until the Great Changer revealed Himself unto Thosim and brought him peace. A pact was struck and the Changer took him eyes that he might see clearly his visions, his inner eye open to what will be not what is. Thosim now moves into his sight and into alignment.
His great axe and eye brought into service to our Church.

The Cerulean Ledger. Church of Transmogrification

I have the bad habit of starting to many projects, and planning many more in my head, though this might just be that I don't have time to do all that want or can imagine!
Some of the ideas get written down, to picked up a some point maybe, and others I start to gather in project boxes and usually start them when they hit critical mass or tie in with a particular mood or event such as my Necromunda Brat gang which I had been slowly adding too over several year and finally had enough to field a whole gang for BOYL.
One of the long term boxes is for a Tzeentch chaos warband, very much a Realm of Chaos creation but with a AOS28 edge.
After picking up a couple of Marauder chaos dwarfs in a recent job lot I added them to the box and realised it had reached a point to start some time ago

Amongst the collection are Tzeentch Deamons and Horrors, Chaos marauders and hounds, Beastmen, Familiars and the Regiment of Renown, The Disciples of the Red Redemption as well as figures from the Pantheon of Chaos Kickstarter.

My aim for the warband is to draw inspiration from the Realms of Chaos books and also AOS28, a more GrimDark vision of the Age of Sigmar.  A focus on each figure with each one being converted. This will be an opportunity for me to stretch my converting and Green Stuff skills and painting.

The first choice is one of the marauder Dwarfs which I have reshaped his helmet to cover his face and added a pair of antlers from the Sylvaneth Tree-revenant box. He will also have one of the shields from the Pantheon of Chaos.

With quite a blocky figure i didn't want to do too much and over do it but rather let the paintwork be the focus.

My idea was to go with a pale bone armour and have echoes of a Pink Horror but with elements of blue to keep it more Tzeentch rather than Slaanesh.
