Slann. Wizard 1

Slann wizard and their slave litters are one of they great army centrepieces and i am luckily enough to have four of them.
With the first slave unit completed i set confident enough to start one. the slaves were based and painted the same way as the slave unit

Metal work added and rusted using Forgeworld powder

Final shading and touches before adding the blue

Figures finished and matched up with slave fighter

Completed base

The Slann Mage was painted in greens to give the army a more unified feel

The litter is painted in subdued shades and more natural colours, drawing on the colours from Apocalypto (scene featuring noble in the city marketplace)

It also keeps the focus on the Slann Mage

His fan Bearer/ personal standard I have put on a separate base (still WIP) I also might add a back banner or two to give it more height

Side by side with Mage I painted about 25 years ago

Skitarii Rust Lancer

My two Skitarii Rust Lancers are about done and ready to be painted.

Partly inspired by S.Dali The Caravan, the Rust Lancers were put together using an Warhammer Fantasy Empire Knight horse and parts of the Forgeworld Tech-Thrall with Mitrelock.
The Horse was prepared by removing/not attaching it's head and tail. The saddle was filed down as was the back of the front armour level with the back. The hoofs were removed and holes drilled and replaced with the ends of Cocktail/toothpick sticks (2 inch). Sections of guitar wire were added to replace the tail and to the middle sections.

The main intersection is made up from a section of cable from the Zinge Industry model supply range ( 'Flexible Extra Large Bundled Power Cables' left in picture)
It fits into the opening very well and you can push more into the body cavity to add stability. The trunk is then topped with the Tech-thrall which has been cut to just under the chest plate. Cabling from the Mithralock is then taken and attached to the backpack and horse torso. Smaller guitar string sections are then added around the waist as further support.
Green Stuff cables were then added to the legs and torso. The cables were made using the Roll Maker from Green Stuff World.

Arms and shield were then added from an Empire Knight. The purity seal was made with paper and Green stuff, the seal indent was made with the end of a brush with the bristles removed.

I am very pleased with how these have turned out and they should fit in well to the medieval overtones of my Inquisitor Warband, also tempted to make up a full unit as they would be perfect in an Adeptus Mechanicum force as a Fast Attack and supporting an Ironstrider

Dreams of Mars...

With 15mm gaming and painting (well painting so far!) my wargaming bug has been well and truly woken up. I have been considering a return to Games Workshop for some time and with the release by Forgeworld of their Mechanicum forces and now by GW itself with the Skitarri it has kind of decided it for me.
Ever since I read Mechanicum by Graham McNeil (set during the outbreak of the Horus Heresy)  I have been looking to delve more into the side and along with an Inquisitional Warband  appeal to me the most. They both have a strong Steampunk feel and tap in to the Heart of the Warhammer 40K story with their techno medieval appearance and ideology. As a painter and builder the Mechanicum offers a lot of scope, not just on adapting existing figures but the potential for unique pieces and highly personalised equipment and appearance.
In preparation for a Mechanicum army I have just finished rereading Mechanicum and have started the Priests of Mars which is the start of a Mechanicum Trilogy also by Grham McNeil.
Over on my Pinterest, I have set up a Adeptus Mechanicum board for inspiration:
