Ion Age 28. Terrain 1.

With my desk heavy with Green (or soon to be green!) figures as part of the ongoing OWAC I have picked up my 28mm Ion Age forces to offer a bit of a break and started working on some terrain pieces. Any game system I get into will inevitably get some terrain added and although already have some generic terrain pieces that will fill a board I wanted to give my games something Universe specific.

The Ion Age universe over at Alternative Armies runs in both 15mm and 28m scales, sharing the same setting but with different rule sets that reflect the game level, squad skirmish for 28mm and a larger platoon upwards for the 15mm, While both scales are well supported in infantry, the 15mm also gives you access to vehicles, larger mechs and also a large range of terrain pieces with a modular Hab system.

Initial test compared to a 15mm Hab using half of a Hamster ball and Foamcard to build the base and butresses

Adding some inside details before sphere was glued down.
Slits for air were also covered using strips of card

Completed Habs from the one Hamster ball. One intact and one ruined. The Doors and additional details 3D printed from free files found on Thingiverse. I had considered making the roof flat to closer match the 15mm version but decided to keep the ball hatch for greater convenience.
The domes are shown next to a 15mm Hab and a 28mm Ion Age PDF Soldier.

Gravel and sand added and awaiting paint.

Doctor Who.Robot 3

Unit Nations Intelligence Taskforce

The final figures in the Doctor Who story Robot are now done with the Brigadier and UNIT forces.

The figures are a mix of Black Tree Designs and Crooked Dice.

Painted as part of the Robot Story set their uniform will work for most of Third and fourth Doctors stories.

This blog was a great resource for the details:

Lesser Goblins - The Bloody Fingers.

The battle had not gone to plan.

Nilbog had planned to lead his band to loot and fame. Nilbog had planned to time it just right and charge in just as the enemy were turning, to cut through the Orc line and take down the best pickings.

Nilbog's plan had never gone so wrong

The Orc line had broken under a furious Cavalry charge from armoured Knights and his band had been caught up in the rout, taken down by first the fleeing Orcs and then by the hooves and blades of the persuing Cavalry. Nilbog had escaped with his life and little else, his band scattered or worse and he had fled to lick his wounds as start again.

Wandering into unknown territory he had come across the lands of the Severed Hand tribe Orcs and amongst them the lesser goblins of the Bloody Fingers. Nilbog began again and was soon leading the Bloody Fingers as he had led his last band, a mound of fingers at his hut door and a eager mob to lead to glory and loot!

Alternative Armies runs a free gift promotion each month with their orders and through that I acquired a small band of goblins, Nilbogs Backwoods Goblin band.

Alternative Armies

They were added to my Goblinoid lead pile but with my ongoing Bloodbath at Orcs Drift project I had a flash of inspiration and dug them out. Paired up with an old citadel goblin standard bearer and a lesser goblin that had been shamefully bouncing round various boxes for far too many years they would be a lesser goblin uint to support by Severed Hand Orc tribe.

With the test figure done using the same style as their larger cousins I also settled on a name for them in line with the Severed Hands. Before they had banded together and joined with Nilbog these were the ones who would be sent out to collect the severed hand trophies for the Orcs. The bravest would join the fighting and started taking their own trophies, a finger rather than a whole hand  and  which often resulted in the Orcs complaining that there was bits missing from the hands.
'Bloody Fingers?!' started out as a complaint but became the name of their little band.

With the first batch done I couldn't settle on a figure for Nilbog, there was no official designated figure and the citadel lesser goblin felt more like a 'lumbering' champion rather than the brains of the outfit so I ended up getting some more and building a centrepiece for the newly crowned boss.
