Carcosa District. The Haunted Houses Part 1

This is a small update on the Carcosa District Project with completion of the second building.
The building is a small test for the Haunted House Scenario, rather than a series of small ruined buildings i have decided on a series of kiosk shrines, this will fit in better with the wider district look and add more terrain and hideaways!

The broad top will allow it to be used for walkways, i might extend it further for the next ones to create pathways that can link up to the larger buildings on a second level

Carcosa District. The Mausoleum Part 2

The House of Lord Solar

The Church of the Dead Sun was no more. Its brightest had led the way into the white wall that devoured the great city and died for their defiance. But not all had joined the procession and from that cabal Lord Solar remained.
As the end approached Lord Solar withdraw to the tomb he had long held prepared and called to him those servants and courtiers he would take with him. They filled the first chamber beneath the edifice and took the sacrament that would end their lives and bind them to him forever. Their spirits locked inside their bodies as they awaited his commands.

Deeper still lay the vault of Lord Solar and a Pale yellow sarcophagus inset with carnelian runes and wards. resplendent in his ceremonial robes of scarlet and yellow, he lay down and bound his spirit to his body that he might endure the cold and wake one day to take his place in the city.

With the building completed I started work on the skeletons, and also a backstory and reason for the scenario. I had a vision of a powerful sorcerer who had tried to survive the destruction, the mausoleum an ancient bunker, and his most loyal servants sat dead in obedient rows waiting to be summoned.

The Games Workshop skeletons had started last time I attempted Frostgrave so were all given new lower bases

I wanted my skeletons to be robed to fit the image of them as resurrected servants. Tissue paper was wrapped around them to make the robes and then wiped over with superglue which hardens it, you can also use drying time to shape it as well

Skeletons rebased and first coat of Soft yellow added.

Bases completed

To create the undead Sorcerer Lord Solar I used an old Games Workshop Wight and raised him up to make him more imposing and give the impression of him floating

Robes and cloak added with tissue paper and superglue

Completed Lord Solar

Completed skeletons, each of them bears a parchment nailed to them binding them to Lord Solar

Next on my list will be a couple more general buildings, some more bases and the Genie and bottle.

Carcosa District. The Mausoleum Part 1

With the majority of Carcosa District built ( other than... and some scatter terrain) I have decided to break up the project and start with the scenarios, completing the buildings and components and then figures for each one. This will mean I can see some real progress and start playing quicker (now adding war band to the list!). First off is the Mausoleum

initial construction. cardboard with BBQ skewers to reinforce the pagoda walls and half a foam ball for the dome. plasticard base

Completed Building. I wanted to give this one quite an aged and bruised look as if time had taken its toll on the building itself

The Base paints are  B&Q Wallpaint Matt Soft Yellow, Goodhome range Westminster and Aravaca, GW Agrax Earthshade, Reikland Fleshshade and Nuln Oil

Detail of the texture of the walls and base.
I might go back and remake this one and add a removable top at some point

For the city base I wanted something quite plain so to maximise flexibility and allow the for the buildings and scatter terrain to lie flat.
Following an idea from one of the terrain groups on facebook, I managed to get hold of some textured wallpaper (Pietra Textured Heavyweight Italian Vinyl from the Range)

I have cut out a couple of squares and added baking soda to adds some extra detail and variety.

First four tiles ( they are 25cm by 25cm) and the Mausoleum and a skeleton warrior to show scale

Completed tile.

While waiting for paint to dry I also revisited the treasure tokens I had made up and repainted them to match up with the new colour scheme

Unpainted treasure tokens, rolled up paper for scrolls and some pieces from my bits box

Initial paint job awaiting snow

Repainted bases and the tokens darkened up

Carcosa District. City 1

When i started to plan out my Carcosa District this was the first image of Michael Hutters I found and   along side his other work has shaped the final design. With the intention of a lot of tall buildings rather than ruins I wanted a relatively quick construction process as well and settled on card and paper mâché.

This was the first building and became the template for the others

Each building will have multiple points for walkways

The paper mâché has been deliberately wrinkled to add more texture to the final buildings

Bridge section reinforced with BBQ skewers

half a polystyrene ball for the dome

This will be one of the three towers for the Silent Tower scenario

The centre piece of the city will the Great Tower inspired by this M. Hutter piece

A big build at just over 21 inches high!

Some shots of the district so far, but still a lot to add before i start to paint!
Some of the buildings with get scaffolding similar to the great Tower. I have a couple more ruined buildings planned, the Well and some more wall sections. There is also the floor and all the walkways, some stone and some wooden and some dead tree/rocky outcrops for the ground level
